Pick the civ you want to remodel. Civs are grouped by the architecture they
share — reskinning shared buildings (houses, barracks, walls…) changes every civ in
that group, while castles, wonders & unique buildings change only for the civ you pick.
Pick an architecture above to restyle every building at once, then tweak any tile with Change…
Play with it
Install & play your mod
Windows only. The installer is a .bat file and needs the Windows PC version of Age of Empires II: DE.
Download the builder. Click ⬇ Download Mod. It saves a small file called
AotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms.bat to your Downloads (it doesn't need admin rights and doesn't
install anything — it just copies picture files).
Run it. Go to your Downloads and double-click AotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms.bat.
A black window opens, finds your Age of Empires II: DE folder automatically, and copies the
building graphics you chose — renamed correctly — into a new
AotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms folder in your Downloads. When it says “Done”, press a key to close.
(If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info → Run anyway. If it
can't find the game, paste your AoE2DE folder path when it asks.)
Move the folder into the game. Open File Explorer, paste this into the address bar and
press Enter — %USERPROFILE%\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE — open your profile
folder (the long number = your Steam ID; if there are several, use the one you play), then
mods\local, and move the AotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms folder (from your
Downloads) inside it. Final path:
…\<your-steam-id>\mods\local\AotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms\.
Enable it in-game. Launch Age of Empires II: DE → Mods →
Local → tick “YourCiv — Custom Architecture” → Apply changes
(restart if asked).
Play. Start a single-player / skirmish game as your civ (or any civ that shares its
architecture) and you'll see your custom buildings.
Good to know
The .bat only copies picture files out of your own game — it's a
graphics-only mod, no stats or gameplay change, and totally reversible.
Shared buildings reskin the whole architecture family; castles & wonders reskin your chosen civ; palisade walls are shared by everyone.
Best for single-player, custom scenarios and skirmish. Ranked multiplayer ignores local visual mods.
To uninstall, delete the AotA_YourCiv_aoe2rms folder from mods\local.
